Match 1 28/09/2011 Tonbridge V Maidstone

Report
For our first match against Maidstone we were without our GM President John Emms and it was a closely fought affair, I personally made a careless mistake in an endgame and should have lost but crucially managed to get a draw in a passed h-pawn endgame. Andy Mata had a good win against a strong opponent whilst Phil managed to overturn an opponent who was feeling worst for wear.
One of Maidstone’s men unfortunately defaulted and this, together with my snatched draw was crucial to our victory.
Match 2 Folkestone V Tonbridge 8/10/2011
v
Our second match was a hugely challenging affair, having to travel 50 miles just to get to the venue we were up against a team who outgraded us heavily on the top three boards, (an average of 183 vs 147)! Unfortunately, there were no ‘giant killings’ on the day, and the only highlights was my own victory and a solid draw from Jim Robertson on board 6.
Match 3 Rochester V Tonbridge 24/10/2011

In our third match, our GM President John Emms played, and after being mauled by Folkestone, it was nice to bounce back in considerable style against a team we outgraded heavily. The obvious highlight was that everybody either won or drew, and we can now look forward to our remaining home fixtures (Sitttingbourne 9th Nov and Rainham 30th November) with confidence.

On the 9th November we played against an under-strength Sittingbourne side and achieved a near-perfect score. My own game finished quite quickly and this really set the tone for the whole evening.
Our final qualifying match in the Stevenson takes place at home on Wednesday 30th November and if we can get a result, then hopefully the semi-finals beckon.
